Stamford Hospital is among a select few hospitals nationally (and is the only one in Connecticut) to have installed the Toshiba American Medical Systems Infinix CF-i/SP X-ray system in both cardiac catheterization labs. This superior technology makes it possible to capture images nearly instantaneously, without needing to reposition patients.

Interventional Cardiology
Interventional cardiology is a medical specialty that utilizes non-surgical "interventions" for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Stamford Hospital's Heart & Vascular Institute's expert team of cardiologists are highly trained and experienced at performing the full range of interventional cardiac procedures in our two state of the art cardiac catheterization laboratories. Stamford Hospital performs more interventional procedures than any other hospital in the region. Our advanced technology attains images of the highest resolution while delivering the lowest possible doses of radiation.
Common procedures we offer include:
Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization, also known as coronary angiogram. This procedure enables physicians to see and understand what is happening inside the coronary arteries and to identify blockages.
Electrophysiology Study, used to understand the origin and risk and proper treatment for arrythmias.
Angioplasty, including balloon angioplasty and stenting. Stamford Hospital performs these procedures, which can be elective (scheduled in advance) or emergency (to save the lives of patients having a heart attack) with the latest technology and treatment options, including drug-eluting stents, for reopening of narrowed coronary arteries.
Pacemaker & Defibrillator Insertion,to generate electrical impulses to treat a slow heart rhythm or restore a fast or irregular rhythm to normal.
Cardioversion: A controlled electrical shock is delivered to convert an abnormal heart rhythm back to a normal rhythm. This is a brief procedure that can be elective, for treatment of atrial fibrillation, or an emergency intervention to correct a rapid abnormal rhythm associated with faintness, low blood pressure, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or loss of consciousness.
