Intraoperative Procedures

To insure that every bypass surgery has the best possible outcome, the surgical team at Stamford Hospital performs certain critical intraoperative procedures to confirm that each bypass is perfect.

Angiography

All cardiac bypass patients at Stamford Hospital receive angiography before leaving the operating room as a way to ensure optimal blood flow has been restored. This is similar to the angiography performed by your cardiologist to diagnose the blockages in your coronary arteries and can be used to show proper blood flow through newly a constructed bypass.

Flow Measurement

As another measure taken to ensure that you get the best possible operation, the surgical team evaluates the flow in every bypass during your operation. This procedure uses multiple doppler probes to measure the flow in your new bypass grafts. The surgeon is provided a graph of the flow along with detailed measurements which indicate the direction, rate, and resistance of the blood flow in your new bypass. This information is printed out and placed in your medical record.
