Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting
Bypasses are constructed of arteries and veins harvested from your body. Traditionally, the vessel is removed from the leg through a long incision that may stretch from ankle to groin. These incisions frequently bleed and became infected and the patient may be left with a painful incision that results in a long visible scar.
Endoscopic vessel harvesting (EVH) offers patients a minimally-invasive alternative for obtaining the vein or artery. With EVH the vessel can be removed through one to three smaller incisions, each approximately one inch in length. The patient benefits include:
- Reduced postoperative pain
- Minimal scarring
- Reduced surgical trauma
- Decreased incidence of wound healing complications
